Institute for Excellence and Development (i-ED) is a premier 21st Century training institute in Bhutan built on a social enterprise business model of creating social value, not just commercial value. It is based on honest thinking that good for business has to go hand-in-hand with good for society. In other words, good for society can be good for business too if we do it right and it is more sustainable in the long run. Therefore, profit is not a deciding factor in our business decisions – sometimes we have to conduct training even when it is at business loss because it is still good for society, and we did that many times so far. Our Institute also believes that all our training programs must do three things: touch your heart, stimulate your thought, and make you feel good. We understand theories are same everywhere whether in USA, India, Bhutan, or anywhere. But contexts are different, and it is the context that makes real difference. In other words, contents are important but contexts are more important. Therefore, all our trainings are globally competent but locally rooted. While we research our contents from global think tanks and cutting edge technological and skills advancements of the 21stCentury, we train our participants through Bhutanese and International Perspectives. Doing this, we believe, will ultimately not only training participants but Bhutan as a whole.

Strengthening curriculum design, learner-centred pedagogy, inclusive practice and responsible AI-supported assessment.
The Institute for Excellence and Development (iED), in association with Royal Global University, proposes a five-day professional development programme on Curriculum and Pedagogical Approaches. The programme is designed to strengthen educators’ ability to connect curriculum design, learner-centred pedagogy, inclusive practice and assessment in a coherent teaching process.
A key feature of the updated programme is the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in assessment. Participants are introduced to AI-assisted assessment design, question generation, rubric development, feedback and analysis, with explicit emphasis on human judgement, verification, fairness, privacy and academic integrity.
Effective education hinges on two pillars: a well-designed curriculum and effective pedagogical approaches. In the rapidly evolving educational landscape of Bhutan and the region, educators are expected to move beyond rote, teacher-centred delivery toward learner-centred, inclusive and outcome-aligned practices.
The programme addresses the identified development gap by building participants’ capacity to understand intended, taught and learned curriculum; make intentional design decisions based on coherence, relevance and progression; shift from lecturer to facilitator; adapt teaching to diverse learner needs; and design assessments that measure and support learning.
It further introduces responsible AI use in assessment while maintaining human oversight. Practical application is central to the programme through critique of real syllabi, lesson redesign, assessment development, AI-supported assessment activities, case studies and microteaching with peer feedback.
By the end of the five-day programme, participants will be able to:
